Malawi president annuls election, orders fresh vote in 90 days

LILONGWE (Reuters) - Malawi's President Joyce Banda said on Saturday she was annulling a presidential election held four days ago because of "irregularities" and ordered a fresh vote in 90 days.

She told a news conference in Lilongwe she would no longer stand as a presidential candidate in the re-run of the vote.

"I am nullifying the elections, using the powers invested in me by the Malawi constitution," Banda said.
