Former Peruvian president Fujimori hospitalized for medical tests


    Lima, Oct 22 (EFE).- Former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence, has been admitted to a clinic for medical examinations of his tongue which was affected by cancer some years ago.

    Fujimorist legislator Alejandro Aguinaga said through his Twitter account that the former head of state was admitted late Tuesday to La Luz clinic in the Peruvian capital.

    Aguinaga, a surgeon by training, told RPP News that Fujimori would undergo examinations of his tongue where there is whitish patch.

    In 2012, Fujimori was operated on for the fifth time for oral leucoplakia and last year he was admitted to the same center after ischemia affected the mobility of his left arm.

    The 75-year-old convicted leader also underwent an MRI scan and cardiology, gastroenterology and pneumology tests after suffering a mild stroke.

    Fujimori is serving his sentence for crimes against humanity in Lima's Barbadillo prison.

    A plea for his pardon on humanitarian grouds last year was turned down by President Ollanta Humala.
