China says quake death toll in Sichuan nearly 10,000

BEIJING (Reuters) - China said on Tuesday an earthquake centred in the southwest province of Sichuan killed nearly 10,000 in that province alone, Xinhua news agency reported.

The report came as Premier Wen Jiabao warned that rescuersfaced huge obstacles reaching the area worst-hit by the quakethat struck on Monday afternoon.
