Guinea court confirms first-round election results

CONAKRY (Reuters) - Guinea's Supreme Court on Tuesday overruled challenges to the results of a hotly contested June 27 presidential election, paving the way for a runoff vote between the two front-runner candidates.

The West African state, the world's biggest bauxite exporter, is in the process of replacing a military-led government with what would be its first freely elected administration since independence from France in 1958.

Former Prime Minister Cellou Dalien Diallo and second-placed Alpha Conde, a veteran opposition leader, will now go into a second round, whose date has yet to be set.
