Prosecutors to appeal former French PM smear ruling


    PARIS (Reuters) - French justice authorities will appeal the judgement clearing former Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin of involvement in a plot to smear Nicolas Sarkozy, the Paris state prosecutor said Friday.

    "I have decided to file an appeal against this decision," Jean-Claude Marin told Europe 1 radio. "Whatever happens, there will be a second trial."
