Sarkozy attack on Mandelson "disappointing"


    BRUSSELS (Reuters) - An attack by French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Europe's trade chief Peter Mandelson as well as on World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General Pascal Lamy was "disappointing", Mandelson's spokesman said on Tuesday.

    "President Sarkozy's further attack on Peter Mandelson, asEU trade negotiator, as well as Pascal Lamy, is disappointing.Such criticism is wrong and unjustified," the spokesman said ina statement, adding Sarkozy had made his latest comments in aninterview on Monday night with France 3.

    "At a difficult time in world trade negotiations, the EUneeds to maintain its unity. The (European) Commission willcontinue to work in the interests of all member states to get afair and balanced outcome in the Doha round" of world tradetalks, the spokesman said.
