Atlassian Named Leader for Second Year in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Development Life Cycle Management

Atlassian, a leading provider of collaboration software for teams, today announced it has once again been positioned by Gartner, Inc., in the "Leaders" Quadrant of the 2013 "Magic Quadrant for Application Development Life Cycle Management" (ADLM) report*. The new Magic Quadrant (MQ) report evaluates 16 ADLM vendors, positioning them based on their ability to execute and their completeness of vision.

Atlassian believes it has established itself as a leader in the market based on its product innovation and unique business model, which challenges the sales-oriented status quo in enterprise software. The company thinks that the "product should sell itself," and thus invests in R&D over typical investments in a commissioned sales force. As a percentage of revenue, Atlassian spends twice as much as its peers on R&D. This results in products beloved by customers, at a price point that´s accessible to a broad audience of people building software. For its fiscal year ending June 30, 2013, Atlassian had total revenues, excluding rental income, of $149 million, up 35 percent year over year.

"Software is eating the world. And it´s changing so many aspects of our everyday lives – the cars we drive, the appliances we use at home, the way we connect with loved ones. And businesses we normally wouldn´t think of as technology businesses are using software to change their products and industries, from running shoes to oil pipelines," said Jay Simons, president of Atlassian. "We help teams in over 30,000 companies build software better, and reshape the world around us through software innovation."

The report notes that "Organizations are showing more interest in integrated ADLM because they want an integrated solution, and not simply because they want to acquire a single vendor´s solution stack." Unlike other vendors who focus on selling package deals to lock in customers, Atlassian offers highly integrated products that are available for individual purchase, so customers can create their dream stack without being stuck with a single vendor.

"Atlassian´s customers are in more than 135 countries and nearly every industry," continued Simons. "We believe if you´re trying to change the world through software innovation, Atlassian´s the best partner you could choose. We feel that our growing market presence and continued position in Gartner´s "Leaders" Quadrant is great evidence that we´re disrupting the traditional ADLM market with our great products and unique model."
