NHC says still chance of tropical storm in northwest Caribbean

BANGALORE (Reuters) - The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Friday an elongated area of low pressure interacting with a large upper-level trough over the extreme north-western part of Caribbean Sea has a 20 percent chance of developing into a tropical or a subtropical cyclone over the next couple of days.

The NHC said the low pressure system is extending north-eastward across central and eastern Cuba, the Florida Straits and most of the Bahamas.

The NHC said upper-level winds are currently unfavorable for development of this system, but, may become marginally favorable in the next two days.
