Mattel quarterly profit misses on weak euro
MATTEL (MAT.NQ) whose brands include Barbie and American Girl, reported a profit of $51.6 million, or 14 cents per share, more than doubling year-earlier earnings of $21.5 million, or 6 cents per share.
The company said net sales rose 13.4 percent to $1.02 billion, but unfavorable currency changes had shaved off 3 percentage points from that growth.
Analysts on average forecast a profit of 15 cents per share on sales of $1.02 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Sales in the United States were up 17 percent, while abroad, they rose 9 percent.
Sales for Barbie and Hot Wheels were up 6 percent and 11 percent, respectively, but down 4 percent for American Girl.
