COPAN Systems Increases Lead in Data Center Efficiencies

COPAN Systems, the leader in persistent data storage based upon
its intelligent, enterprise-class enhanced MAID (Massive Array of Idle
Disks) platform, today announced the availability of 750 Gigabyte
drives for its products. These drives now boost the capacity of
COPAN's enhanced MAID arrays by 50 percent, giving them an
unprecedented 672 terabytes of capacity in a single cabinet - the
industry's highest storage density of 67.2 TB/sq ft. - saving valuable
    space in the data center.

"As the amount of persistent data continues to grow in the data
center, IT managers need to consider the appropriate platform on which
to house and manage their important digital assets," said Roger
Archibald, senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development
for COPAN Systems. "With larger amounts of data storage requirements,
the amount of energy attributed to storage platforms has become a
major concern to data center managers, as well. The addition of 750
gigabyte drives to our enhanced MAID platform allows us to further our
technical lead in the storage market with a platform that addresses
both data volume concerns and the associated energy concerns in an
    unprecedented fashion."

According to a recent survey of data center managers conducted by
The InfoPro, the average installed SAN disk storage capacity in the
Fortune 1000 organizations increased from 138 TB in early 2004 to over
680 TB in October of 2006. That number has doubled approximately every
10 months since 2005 and is expected to only increase.

COPAN Systems is proud to build its leadership position in the
development of solutions that address both the growing amount of
persistent data in the data center, and the associated energy
consumption issues created by the need to store and manage it. COPAN
introduced the term Cool Bytes(R) in April to bring attention to the
rapidly emerging energy crisis in the data center. The costs
associated with powering and cooling storage devices is now rapidly
    approaching those for servers.

COPAN Systems has taken a "revolutionary" approach in how it has
engineered its products over the past 4 years to deal with power and
cooling issues in the data center. The low power requirements of
COPAN's enhanced MAID architecture integrated with the extremely large
storage density delivers in excess of an impressive 100 terabyte (TB)
per kilowatt, the highest in the industry. This compares to an average
power density for Fibre Channel disk products of approximately 4 TB
per kilowatt and an average rate for standard SATA disk products of 17
TB per kilowatt. The savings are significant with estimates for power
and cooling savings between $5.7 million and $7.8 million over a four
    year time period.

COPAN Systems is fully committed to reducing the consumption of
energy in the data center. Recently, they became the first storage
only company to join the Green Grid, and they are actively involved in
the consortium's technical working committees. Due to the energy
efficiency of the COPAN MAID platform, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E)
is offering an end-user energy incentive rebate directly to companies
who deploy COPAN energy efficient MAID storage. COPAN is actively
engaged with other energy providers to expand upon the pioneering
    leadership of PG&E.
