India PM Singh to go to Copenhagen summit December 17

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will attend the end of the Copenhagen climate change summit, TV news channels said, joining dozens of world leaders, in the latest sign of the growing momentum toward a new accord.

Singh's decision to go to Copenhagen on December 17 comes just days after India, the world's fourth biggest emitter, said it will aim to cut carbon intensity by 20-25 percent by 2020 compared with 2005 levels.

U.S. President Barack Obama will also attend the final days of the Dec 7-18 summit, which Denmark hopes will help lay the foundation for a successor to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol on cutting global warming gases.
