Credit card bill clears Senate procedural vote

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A bill to curb sudden credit card interest rate increases and hidden fees cleared a key procedural hurdle in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, opening the way for a prompt Senate vote on final passage.

If approved, the bill was expected to go again to the U.S. House of Representatives, where it won approval last month in very similar form by a 357-70 vote, and then to President Barack Obama, who wants to sign it into law by the end of May.
