Treasury to reveal more details on toxic-asset plan soon

HORSHAM, England (Reuters) - The Treasury Department will announce more details in the coming week of its proposal for having public-private partnerships take bad assets off banks' books, a senior department official said on Saturday.

The proposal for such partnerships was first made by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in February but the lack of detail at the time disappointed financial markets led to a sharp drop in stock prices.

The official told reporters that Treasury wants to provide enough additional information so that potential participants can judge whether they might want to participate and to indicate the timeframe within which it is expected to become operational.
