Wall Street briefly turns negative on RIM, bank plan

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks briefly turned negative on Wednesday, weighed by a disappointing outlook from Research in Motion and lingering concerns about Washington's failure to restore confidence in the financial system.

BlackBerry maker Research in Motion tumbled 17 percent to $47.32, making the stock the top drag on the Nasdaq.

Financial shares were modestly higher on bargain hunting, with JPMorgan leading the Dow.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 15.61 points, or 0.20 percent, at 7,904.49. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 1.49 points, or 0.18 percent, at 828.65. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 3.57 points, or 0.23 percent, at 1,521.16.

Earlier all three indexes were up more than 1 pct.
