Reclusive German who hoarded Nazi-looted art has died


    BERLIN (Reuters) - The elderly recluse whose Munich apartment contained a secret hoard of art masterpieces, including works looted by the Nazis from their Jewish owners during the Holocaust, has died following a heart operation, his spokesman said on Tuesday.

    Cornelius Gurlitt's priceless trove of works by the likes of Canaletto, Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso was discovered in early 2012 by German authorities who began investigating him for tax offences after being alerted by a routine check on a train.
