NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks ended lower on Monday in volatile trading, as concerns about the depth of a global recession and the outlook for profits overshadowed hopes about a thaw in the credit markets.
The Dow Jones industrial average unofficially ended down 203.02 points, or 2.42 percent, at 8,175.93. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index unofficially ended down 27.79 points, or 3.17 percent, at 848.98. The Nasdaq Composite Index unofficially ended down 46.13 points, or 2.97 percent, at 1,505.90.
