BP to move to next option after "top kill" fails


    HOUSTON (Reuters) - BP is abandoning its failed "top kill" effort to smother and plug a Gulf of Mexico oil leak and is moving to its next option, Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said on Saturday.

    He said the top kill did not stop the leak, so BP would place a cap on a lower marine riser package atop a failed blowout preventer to capture the oil.
