Op-ed: Regional governments are more than their words
The Minister of Employment and Social Security, Fátima Báñez, met yesterday with representatives from self-employed worker organizations in order to tell them what they can do to improve Spain's economic outlook and that they could be the solution for getting Spain out of the current crisis.
Self-employed workers and small presses are waiting on labor reforms to provide more flexibility, mobility and incentives in the workplace, all of which will offer them increased hiring incentives.
For example, if there were a 3,000-euro bonus for the first hiring contract, it would be paid directly and not applied through a tax write off, which potentially would end up diluting all its effectiveness.
The Spanish government has a chance to demonstrate that it truly supports self-employed workers with something more than words and rhetorical incentives that are appreciated, but not enough.
