Dow and S&P fall 1 percent



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Dow industrials and S&P 500 index fell more than 1 percent in early afternoon trading on Friday, with the energy and industrials sectors weighing on the market.

    Energy companies fell with the price of oil. An S&P index of energy stocks lost 2.3 percent.

    The Dow Jones industrial average was down 96.13 points, or 0.96 percent, at 9,906.05. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 11.31 points, or 1.06 percent, at 1,051.80. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 12.62 points, or 0.59 percent, at 2,112.81.

    Earlier, the government said the unemployment rate declined in January, but that employers unexpectedly cut jobs.
