Wall Street taken lower by economic worries

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks fell further in volatile action on Thursday on worries about the prospects for the global economy and concern about corporate profit outlooks.

The Dow Jones industrial average slid 238.94 points, or 2.80 percent, to 8,280.27. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 34.84 points, or 3.89 percent, at 861.94. The Nasdaq Composite Index gave up 77.50 points, or 4.80 percent, at 1,538.25.
