Wall Street loses ground after data



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks briefly turned negative on Tuesday following a report that showed consumer confidence fell to a record low in January.

    * The Dow Jones industrial average falls 6.21 points, or 0.08 percent, at 8,109.82. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index ticks up 0.90 points, or 0.11 percent, at 837.47. The Nasdaq Composite Index edges up 3.54 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,493.00.
