Bogota, May 29 (EFE).- Colombian police said Wednesday that they seized 1.5 tons of high-quality cocaine that the Los Rastrojos criminal organization was planning to ship to Guatemala.
The drug was divided into 1,406 one-kilo packets and was seized in Cali, capital of the southeastern province of Valle del Cauca and Colombia's third city, in Operation Republic 41, according to a police communique.
Authorities added that the drug was to have been shipped from Cali to the Pacific port of Buenaventura, where it was to have been loaded aboard a vessel bound for Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala.
"The investigation allowed (authorities to) determine that the drug belongs to the Los Rastrojos criminal group and it was to have been received in Guatemala by an as yet unidentified cartel," the communique added.
Police are not ruling out that a Mexican network was behind the plan, and thus the information was shared with the antidrug directorates within the national police of both Mexico and Guatemala.
