Times Square bomb suspect indicted - U.S. official

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Times Square bomb suspect Faisal Shahzad has been indicted by a federal grand jury for parking a vehicle containing a crude bomb that failed to detonate in New York's crowded Midtown Manhattan, a U.S. official said on Thursday.

Shahzad, 30, was arrested two days after the failed May 1 attack and was charged with five felony counts, including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and trying to kill and maim people.

The indictment is a more formal charge handed down by a grand jury. He faces life in prison if convicted.
