Senior members of the global intellectual property business community will convene in Amsterdam this month for the inaugural IP Business Congress. Held on 25th and 26th June, the Congress will be one of the major intellectual property events of the year.
The Congress opens with a one and a half day Chief Intellectual Property Officer (CIPO) Summit organised by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM), the world´s leading IP business magazine. Following this, Ocean Tomo LLC will host an auction of IP rights.
"Items such as patents, trade secrets, copyrights and trademarks are now viewed as assets of crucial strategic importance to businesses across the world," says IAM´s editor Joff Wild. "The IP Business Congress will show how their value can be maximised to allow companies to boost revenues and enhance shareholder returns."
The CIPO Summit will be attended by people who are responsible for managing IP portfolios worth hundreds of millions, or even billions, of dollars. "I would strongly urge anyone interested in critical issues facing the IP industry today to attend this event," says Kevin Rivette, Chairman of the US government´s Patent Advisory Committee. "This conference is shaping up to be the IP gathering of the year."
Joining Rivette on the summit´s worldâclass speaking faculty are figures such as Jon Dudas, Under Secretary for Commerce and Director of the US Patent and Trademark Office; David Kappos, Head of IP Law at IBM; Ruud Peters, CEO of Philips IP & Standards; Marshall Phelps, Corporate VP for IP Policy and Practices at Microsoft; Joe Beyers, VP for IP Licensing at HewlettâPackard; and Scott Frank, President and CEO of AT&T Intellectual Property.
"I´m excited to be a part of the first annual IP Business Congress and am looking forward to hearing other intellectual property leaders discuss their roles and challenges," says AT&T´s Scott Frank. "Based on the exceptional list of IP speakers, this is likely to be one of the major events of 2008 and I encourage everyone to attend."
On the afternoon of the second day, IAM will hand over to Ocean Tomo for its second European IP Auction. Widely acknowledged as the world´s leading organiser of live and open IP auctions, Ocean Tomo will give a direct and practical demonstration of the power and value of intellectual property in today´s business world.
Since 2006 Ocean Tomo auctions have raised over $70 million for sellers. Its first European sale "â held in London in June 2007 "â established a world record for a single patent sold at open auction when an internet shopping patent was bought for $4,865,550.
"In collaboration with IAM magazine, we have planned the most informative, important and exciting event for the IP community this year," says James Malackowski, President and CEO of Ocean Tomo. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn from and network with the IP pioneers and thought leaders who will be attending."
