Aon to move headquarters to London

(Reuters) - Insurance brokerage firm Aon Corp said it will move its corporate headquarters to London and plans to add more than 1,000 positions across its U.S. operations in 2012.

"The move (to London) provides greater access to emerging markets and takes better advantage of the strategic proximity to Lloyd's and the London market as one of the key international hubs of insurance and risk brokerage," the company said in a statement.

The company said Chicago will continue as its headquarters of the Americas.

Aon had 59,100 employees as of December, according to Thomson Reuters data.

Shares of Aon, which has a four-year sponsorship agreement with English Premier League football club Manchester United, closed at $46.67 on Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.
