Sonoco-Alcore to Increase European, U.K. Paperboard Prices



    Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. today announced it will raise prices by 40
    Euro per metric ton on all paperboard grades in continental Europe. In
    addition, the Company will raise prices by 10 GBP per metric ton on
    all paperboard grades in the United Kingdom. Both price changes are
    effective with shipments on or after May 1, 2008. The increase in the
    United Kingdom is in addition to a 25 GBP per metric ton price
    increase that went into effect on January 28, 2008.

    According to Eddie L. Smith, Sonoco, vice president--Industrial
    and Consumer Products, Europe, "Every effort has been made to manage
    costs in our paper mills operations, however, rapid increases in the
    cost of energy, chemicals, starch and transportation make it necessary
    for us to recover these inflationary expenses."

    Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. is wholly-owned by Sonoco (NYSE:SON) and
    operates 30 tube and core plants and six paper mills on the European
    continent and in the United Kingdom.
