Recovering Mandela votes in South Africa election
In photographs and a short video clip taken Monday and released by the South African government, the first since he was hospitalized in January, a smiling Mandela is shown sitting at home with family and election officials, casting a ballot and reading through local dailies.
Mandela moves slowly in the video as he listens to an election official, and does not speak.
Mandela spent several days in hospital after suffering an acute respiratory infection, raising concerns about the anti-apartheid icon and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who fought to bring democracy to the country.
Mandela cast a special ballot for those unable to vote at polling stations from his home in an affluent district of Johannesburg, two days before formal election day.
He has been receiving treatment at home since being released from hospital.
