Rapid Foot & Mouth Disinfection Response from JohnsonDiversey

JohnsonDiversey, a leading global provider of cleaning, sanitation
and hygiene solutions, has mobilised its resources for the UK
agriculture and food processing industries in response to the current
outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

JohnsonDiversey has the largest technical field staff in the UK
with 14 Lantra Awards-certified field experts, as well as a full
portfolio of products under the Deosan brand designed to address farm
hygiene for the agriculture sector. The Lantra Awards organisation
specialises in qualification and training in concerns such as health
and safety in the land-based sector, which includes the agriculture
    industry.

"We stand prepared to help farmers and food processors reduce the
threat of foot and mouth disease," said President and Chief Executive
Officer Ed Lonergan. "We've substantially increased the production of
our disinfectant products and refocused our certified farm hygiene
    experts on this challenge."

JohnsonDiversey's field staff has extensive training in farm
hygiene and biosecurity, said David Aveyard, European Sales and
Marketing Director, Agriculture for JohnsonDiversey. The company has
also implemented a Foot and Mouth Crisis Team, which is responding to
customer inquiries and providing technical advice on proper farm and
    food plant hygiene, he said.

"We provide our customers with the latest information on
sanitation practices, cleaning and hygiene skills and government
regulations," Mr. Aveyard said, "and our customer contacts have
    increased significantly during this outbreak."

JohnsonDiversey has increased production of its approved foot and
mouth disinfectants, Deosan Iodel FDII and Zal Perax. The company
estimates that more than five months' worth of stock was delivered to
farming industry distributors on Saturday and Sunday alone.

The company's production plant is currently working around the
clock to increase volumes to build contingency stocks in case they are
    needed, Mr. Aveyard said.

Iodel FDII and Zal Perax are both approved by the Department of
Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The products are
effective for disinfection of foot and mouth disease when used in boot
dips, vehicle wheel dips and spraying, and general spraying. Only
disinfectants with DEFRA approval for notifiable diseases under the
Animal Health Act (1981) should be used.
