Opsware Enhances Vulnerability Management and Compliance Features in Innovative Subscription Service

Opsware Inc. (NASDAQ: OPSW), the leading provider of Data Center
Automation software, today announced a major update to its
ground-breaking online subscription service for compliance and
vulnerability management, The Opsware Network. Available immediately,
The Opsware Network 2.0 includes thousands of additional security and
compliance checks, as well as a new Opsware community element that
provides a portal to community forums and projects and access to
additional content available for download to the Opsware Data Center
    Automation suite.

The industry's only subscription service for automating software
and content delivery to servers and network devices, The Opsware
Network helps customers using Opsware's Server and Network Automation
Systems keep their IT infrastructure up-to-date with the latest
vulnerability alerts and compliance policies. As new alerts and
policies are issued, The Opsware Network automatically determines
which of these are relevant to a customer's specific environment, and
then applies those updates dynamically to the vulnerable or
non-compliant data center infrastructure. Opsware is the only vendor
to offer such an automated and dynamic compliance and vulnerability
management service. This automates what is otherwise a massive and
lengthy manual task for many IT departments for whom it is otherwise
prohibitively difficult and expensive to stay current.

Traditionally, vulnerability management has been a manual process
beginning with email notifications from the individual vendors whose
products are used in a data center. Deciphering such emails from
multiple vendors and determining whether or not they apply to a unique
IT environment, which in a large organization might include many
thousands of servers and network devices, can take days or even weeks,
all the while leaving the environment in a vulnerable state.
Furthermore, the remediation steps to fix these vulnerabilities are
not always clear and notifying the appropriate parties can be
challenging. The Opsware Network keeps customers informed and
up-to-date by delivering actionable vulnerability alerts and
compliance policies for Opsware's software, ensuring that security and
policy violations impacting the IT environment can be immediately
    rectified.

The Opsware Network service consists of two components: The
Opsware Network Subscription Service and The Opsware Network
    Community.

The Opsware Network Subscription Service delivers critical
vulnerability and compliance content to Opsware's Server Automation
System and Network Automation System. It establishes a direct link to
customers, delivering late-breaking updates and remediation solutions
that are applicable to their unique environment. The service helps
ensure that vulnerable IT assets are quickly identified, the right
parties are notified and necessary information is readily available to
those who need it. The service also includes compliance policies for
industry and regulatory standards such as PCI, HIPAA, SOX, and FISMA.
More than 2,000 compliance checks have been added to the latest
    version of The Opsware Network.

The Opsware Network Community is a portal to Opsware-delivered
content that facilitates a cooperative environment across the Opsware
user community. It delivers essential automation content across the
Opsware product family, including industry-standard security
best-practices policies for operating systems, network devices, and
applications. Community users can monitor and contribute to user
forums and submit projects to The Opsware Network Community. This open
forum allows the users to share automation content and leverage the
combined intelligence of the Opsware community.

"Anyone who has ever managed enterprise initiatives like security
and compliance understands that they require continuous maintenance
and attention to detail," said Tim Howes, CTO at Opsware Inc. "By
distilling the onslaught of security updates that fill a typical IT
manager's inbox on a daily basis, and providing the tools to take
action on those updates, The Opsware Network delivers valuable cost
    savings and peace of mind."
