AIG CEO sees bailout payback if economy holds up


    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chief executive of American International Group Inc told Congress on Wednesday that the bailed-out insurer will be able to repay all taxpayer aid to it if economic conditions permit.

    "If the marketplace holds the way it is right now, we think that the American taxpayer will be fully repaid," AIG CEO Edward Liddy told a congressional subcommittee.

    "We will do everything we can to not require additional federal funding ... but that answer is very dependent on the overall economic and financial conditions around the globe."
