Wall Street gains on bank optimism


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks turned higher late on Monday, boosted by financial shares as optimism that big banks will post reassuring quarterly results buoyed sentiment.

    The market recovered from earlier losses driven by Boeing's disappointing outlook, a pullback in oil prices and worries about General Motors' fate.

    The Dow Jones industrial average added 6.93 points, or 0.09 percent, to 8,090.31. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 5.45 points, or 0.64 percent, to 862.01. The Nasdaq Composite Index put on 4.81 points, or 0.29 percent, to 1,657.35.
