Stock futures signal gains



    (Reuters) - Stock index futures pointed to a higher open on Wall Street on Monday on investors' renewed optimism over a recovery in the global economy.

    * At 5:00 a.m. EDT futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.5 percent, Dow Jones futures were up 0.6 percent and Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.7 percent.

    * Europe's FTSEurofirst 300 index was up 1.7 percent, tracking strong gains in Asia in a broad rally.

    * Shares in Sun Microsystems Inc traded in Frankfurt tumbled 26 percent after sources said takeover talks with IBM broke down.

    * IBM shares traded in Frankfurt were down 0.6 percent. The source told Reuters on Sunday the talks collapsed after Sun Micro rejected IBM's $7 billion offer.

    * On the macro front, at 10 a.m. EDT the Conference Board releases its employment trends index for March. In the previous month the index read 91.0, while the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago releases its Chicago Fed Midwest Manufacturing Index for February at 1600 GMT. This read 85.6 in the prior month.

    * On the corporate front, executives from Delphi and General Motors are scheduled to meet with members of the autos task force in Washington.

    * On Friday the Dow Jones industrial average climbed 0.50 percent, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 0.97 percent and the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 1.20 percent.
