Wall Street jumps 6 percent on bank plan



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks jumped on Monday, with the Dow industrials and S&P 500 indexes gaining more than 6 percent after the U.S. government released long-awaited details of a plan to clean out distressed assets from banks' balance sheets

    The three major U.S. stock indexes were on track for their best close in more than a month.

    The KBW banks index rose more than 15 percent.

    The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 449.61 points, or 6.18 percent, to 7,727.99. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rallied 47.57 points, or 6.19 percent, to 816.11. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 83.17 points, or 5.71 percent, to 1,540.44.
