Wall Street loses ground as material stocks slide



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks stumbled on Tuesday as materials stocks sold off after Nucor Corp forecast a first-quarter loss and Alcoa Inc cut its spending and dividend.

    * Dow component Alcoa stock fell nearly 11 percent to $5.46, while Nucor dropped 12.3 percent to $32.42.

    * The Dow Jones industrial average shed 33.85 points, or 0.47 percent, to 7,183.12. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index dropped 3.53 points, or 0.47 percent, to 750.36. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 1.90 points, or 0.14 percent, to 1,405.92.
