Wall Street rallies 2 percent on bank hopes



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks on Monday extended their recovery from 12-year lows reached earlier this month, after major British banks, including Barclays , joined their U.S. counterparts in saying 2009 had gotten off to a strong start.

    * The Dow Jones industrial average was up 128.71 points, or 1.78 percent, at 7,352.69. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 15.21 points, or 2.01 percent, at 771.76. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.16 points, or 0.43 percent, at 1,437.66.
