iTiD Consulting, Ltd. has analysed the "product development capabilties"^* of Japanese manufacturing companies and published The White Paper on Product Development Capabilities (FY2007 Edition). iTiD Consulting Ltd. The White Paper on Product Development Capabilities (FY2007 Edition) is a report which summarizes the results of the New Product Development Survey. This survey is the second investigation (first one held in FY2004) which involved 72 large scale manufacturing companies (including enterprise software companies), 118 business units, and 4,537 engineers all located in Japan.

Through this survey, we discovered how the development capabilities have changed over the past three years. We also found the critical processes that make product development projects successful, as well as ideal conditions of teamwork and IT tools.

Conventionally, objective evaluation of development capabilities was difficult, but with the analysis results we bring can assist in benchmarking your capabilities as well as your strengths and weaknesses.

In FY2008, iTiD plans to release the FY2008 Edition which is will include in–depth investigation of the processes and tools discovered in this edition. Also to be included is the survey on the development capabilities of companies outside of Japan, namely Europe and North America.

^*product development capabilities: An organization´s overall capability to perform product development operations. In detail, it comprises of strategies, technologies, processes, people, organizations, IT systems, knowledge, etc.

Objective:		To grasp real situations correctly focusing on the product development capabilities, which are driving forces for the manufacturing companies. Also, to identify and extract critical points for product development processes and process improvements to survive in the increasingly fierce global–scale market competitions and technology innovation.
