Next weekend box office falls in a relaxed period without any important release. Second February weekend will recive two comedies, Warner’s romantic comedy Fools’ Gold and Universal’s afro american filme Welcome home Roscoe Jenkins.
Both films are bowed in wide release and with the intention to top the B.O. and throw Hannah Montana 3D filmed concert of the top.
Warner’s Fool’s Gold is released in more than 3,100 sites. Co-stared by Mathew McConaughey and Kate Hudson the films is a romantic comedy which could attach young and female audiences. The marketing campaign has been pushing all the rights aspects trying to sell this film as a Romancing the Stone to young people.
Despite the bad reviews, Warner aims to gross among $23-25M during the first frame, hoping to keep audiences and add adult women during next weekends.
Fool’s Gold hasn’t too much direct competition because 27 dresses and The bucket list look like very exhausted after 4 weeks in top10. Both comedies will fall more than 40% during this frame, but their grosses are excellent.
Martin Lawrence’s Welcome home Roscoe Jenkins is a new afro american comedy, similar to Why I did get married and recent action comedy First Sunday.
Universal wants to catch all young urban afro american and has focused all the marketing around big cities. The expectations for the first weekend are among $20M.
Last weekend number one Hannah Montana: best of two worlds concerts will be in box office one week more. Disney said that this film was going to be in theaters only one week, but the success of the movie has convinced to Disney exectutives to keep the film in cinemas.
Hannah Montana will gross more than $18M, dropping a 40% and grossing close to $60M.
The young singer fever film will be the first big success in new 3D technologies. The film only cost $7M, plus $15M in P&A and could end with $75M at the end of its run.
Horror film The Eye will fall considerably after its first frame because horror pics usually drop more than 50% during its second weekend. That’s mean Jessica Alba’s filme will gross $6M and come $21M.
This isn’t a bad results but is far from past successful films as I know what you did last summer or Urban Legend.
About Rambo, Meet the Spartans and Untraceable, they will down a 50% each one. The grosses of Rambo and Untraceable aren’t exactly what their product companies expected but the international grosses could be possitives. They have to wait.
Meet the Spartants has earned close to $40M and that’s mean $40M plus that they deserves. Anybody understod how this filme has been a number one. That’s Hollywood.
Among the Academy Awards nominees, There will be blood will keep audiences to cross the $30M bar. Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic drama adds 113 sites during this weekend.
Ok, good luck to all. Oh, well exepts the new Paris Hilton’s comedies The Hottie and the nottie which is released in 111 sites with the intention to attract all the Hilton’s fans. Regent Releasing has been smart with this kind of released, they haven’t trusted with the success of the film, but they try to make some money with it. Ok! Good luck Paris as well (hugg)
