Nec to launch new femtocell access point from Ubiquisys

Publicado el 10 feb 2010

London 10 February 2010 - NEC Corporation (NEC) announced today the addition of a new femtocell access point from Ubiquisys, to its end-to-end femtocell solution. The NEC FP810 femtocell access point will be available to mobile operators in April 2010.

“One of the main concerns of mobile operators has been to understand the business case for femtocells. The launch of the NEC FP810 proves how we are meeting that challenge by providing mobile operators with a low-price, high-performance and low-energy-consumption device,” said Richard Hanscott, vice president, NEC Europe.

The NEC FP810 is a discreet size – eight centimetres – and delivers high capacity and performance: it is capable of up to eight simultaneous calls and supports HSPA (High Speed Packet Access). It consumes less than 5W of power which is below the EC code of conduct power consumption targets and up to three times lower than most commercially available femtocells.

“We have a proven track record with NEC in providing cutting-edge femtocell solutions to mobile operators and understand the challenges they face. Our collaboration with NEC meets these challenges by providing a low-cost femtocell solution with high performance and low-energy consumption,” said Chris Gilbert, chief executive officer, Ubiquisys.

The NEC FP810 is powered by the Femto-Engine software from Ubiquisys which has patented Self Organising Networks (SON) capabilities that provide continuous spectrum monitoring, self-adapting radio resource management and integral optimised timing synchronization.

Nokia Siemens Networks and Ubiquisys cooperate on 3G Femto Home Access Solution

Publicado el 31 ene 2008

Nokia Siemens Networks has signed a collaboration agreement with Ubiquisys Ltd to provide mobile network operators with femtocell solutions that offer high-quality 3G services at home

January, 31 2008 – Nokia Siemens Networks has signed an agreement with Ubiquisys Ltd, developer of the ZoneGate intelligent 3G femtocell, to provide femtocell solutions that offer greatly improved 3G network coverage and quality of mobile services at home.

Under the agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks and Ubiquisys will cooperate in the marketing and sales of the joint solution to mobile operators worldwide. The widely-recognized ZoneGate femtocell supports industry standard interfaces and conforms to Nokia Siemens Networks’ Femto Gateway’s open architecture.

Nokia Siemens Networks Femto Home Access Solution offers reliable indoor connections for voice and data calls, allowing mobile phone users to enjoy high transmission speeds and quality of service for data applications like browsing, email, music or video downloads.

“We are pleased with our new cooperation with Ubiquisys. Together we can offer an excellent indoor solution for operators to serve their 3G customers. The solution benefits from Ubiquisys’ maturity in femtocell design and deployment, supports open standards and complements our open Femto ecosystem,” said Timo Hyppölä, head of Indoor Radio Solutions Product Line, Nokia Siemens Networks.

“The femtocell market is moving at an astonishing speed and 2008 will undoubtedly prove to be ‘make-up-your-mind’ time for many operators. We are currently involved in 10 trials and expect several to expand into larger deployments later this year,” said Chris Gilbert, CEO of Ubiquisys. “We decided long ago to concentrate on the device and then partner with leading SI vendors who share our vision on the femtocell industry – in Nokia Siemens Networks we have found a perfect ally.”

The Ubiquisys femtocell is a small ‘zero-touch’ plug-and-play 3G access point that uses a mobile subscriber’s broadband connection to transport voice and data calls to the 3G core network using a range of standards based interfaces. In June 2007 ABI Research rated Ubiquisys as the number one femtocell vendor in a survey of the top ten players in the sector, based on product innovation and implementation.

Launched in July 2007, the Femto Home Access Solution from Nokia Siemens Networks introduces open interfaces, boosting the femtocell ecosystem and enabling operators to further enhance their 3G service offering and coverage.
