TeliaSonera’s subsidiary, the mobile operator EMT in Estonia, has created a world’s first mobile identification service which makes it possible to vote via a mobile phone. The service enabled the citizens of Estonia to cast their vote to yesterday’s parliamentary elections via their mobile phone – for the first time in the world.

TeliaSonera today launched the first commercial 4G services in Finland. The services will be offered to customers in Turku and Helsinki.

“The explosive growth of mobile broadband shows that the demand for bandwidth is unlimited, and with 4G we can offer more speed and capacity for mobile data,” says Marek Hintze, Head of TeliaSonera’s Mobility Services in Finland. We have now been operating our 4G network for pilot customers in Turku for six months and the interest in 4G has steadily increased. Therefore we are very happy to launch commercially.

Five companies have joined forces to replace hotel room keys with NFC-enabled mobile phones including ASSA ABLOY, Choice Hotels Scandinavia, TeliaSonera, Venyon and VingCard Elsafe. The technology makes it possible for hotel guests to check-in and out using their mobile phones.
