On2 Technologies, Inc., a leader in video compression technologies, announced today that it has licensed Hantro embedded software video codecs to MediaTek Inc. , a global leader in fabless semiconductor for wireless communications and digital media solutions. The agreement, signed on Dec 27, 2007, will allow MediaTek to provide the On2 codecs along with its baseband chipsets to mobile handset manufacturers.

TARRYTOWN, N.Y., Feb. 12 – On2′s Hantro embedded video software codecs provide chip and device manufacturers with a fast way to enable compelling video performance for applications such as: player / streamer, video telephony and mobile TV. Highly optimized for the mobile environment, the codecs save battery-life through the efficient use of available processor resources and are designed to facilitate porting to multiple wireless platforms.

By licensing the Hantro codecs MediaTek are able to offer their handset customers IMTC and MPEGIF interoperability proven support for popular video formats.

Planned demonstrations to include:

• TrueMotion VP7 — the codec used in Skype video conferencing for high quality, full screen video conferencing, capable of 720P HD video at 300kbps with fixed camera encodes.
• TrueMotion VP6-S — the codec used in AdobeFlash Player 8 and 9 which is designed specifically to allow HD video playback in power restricted applications.
• TrueMobile — a mobile video solution based on On2′s proprietary TrueMotion VP7. Enabling the fast deployment of compelling mobile video services, TrueMobile is capable of delivering high quality video with data rates as low as 20Kbps.
• Hanto RTL designs enabling ultra low power real time encoding and decoding up to HD resolution video. The designs are targeted for baseband and application processors destined for mobile phones and consumer electronics.
• Flix Engine — a video transcoding application SDK for UGC site servers, used by a majority of the 10 top UGC sites.
