Continuar leyendo »

IDC: Worldwide mobile phone market grew more than 11% in the second quarter

Publicado el 29 jul 2011

The worldwide mobile phone market grew 11.3% year over year in the second quarter of 2011 (2Q11), despite a weaker feature phone market, which declined for the first time since 3Q09. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 365.4 million units in 2Q11 compared to 328.4 million units in the second quarter of 2010. The 11.3% growth was lower than IDC’s forecast of 13.3% for the quarter and was also below the 16.8% growth in 1Q11.

The feature phone market shrank 4% in 2Q11 when compared to 2Q10. The decline in shipments was most prominent in economically mature regions, such as the United States, Japan, and Western Europe, as users rapidly transition to smartphones. This was the first decline since Q3 2009 and reflected a combination of conservative spending and continued shift to smartphones.

PC Market Returns to Positive Growth in Line with Expectations, Though Gains Remain Small, According to IDC

Publicado el 13 jul 2011

Worldwide PC shipments increased 2.6% in the second quarter of 2011 (2Q11), according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. The results are just short of IDC’s May projections for 2.9% growth and represent a combination of a hangover from the more than 20% growth in the first half of 2010 as well as competition from smartphones, other consumer products and pressure from lackluster economic conditions. As in 1Q11, the United States and Western Europe were among the weaker regions, reflecting constrained demand in more mature markets, while emerging regions – particularly Latin America and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) – fared better.

Apple shines, Google slows, and Microsoft edges RIM in battle for mobile developer mindshare

Publicado el 26 abr 2011

Appcelerator , the leading mobile cloud platform for rapidly developing native mobile, desktop, and tablet applications using web technologies, and industry-leading analyst firm International Data Corporation (IDC), today announced results from a joint survey of more than 2,700 Appcelerator developers around the world. The survey reveals that developer momentum is shifting back toward Apple as fragmentation and tepid interest in current Android tablets chip away at Google’s recent momentum gains. The report also reveals the rise of the ‘mobile cloud’, a major trend toward connected mobility that promises to partially address the issue of fragmentation and radically transform the relationship between business and customer.

EMEA PC market remained affected by soft consumer demand and persisting inventory levels and contracted 9.6% in 1Q11

Publicado el 20 abr 2011

PC shipments in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) contracted further than expected in the first quarter of 2011 (1Q11) as a result of continued softness in demand and persisting inventory levels in the distribution and retail channels, which constrained vendor “sell in” levels.
